O câncer de colo de útero, também chamado de câncer cervical tem como causa as infecções recorrentes por HPV, o Papilomavírus Humano. Geralmente, a paciente não tem sintomas, o que contribui para a evolução da doença, por causa da dificuldade de diagnóstico precoce por meio de sintomas, por isso o exame Papanicolau, preventivo, precisa ser feito anualmente, para o rastreamento da doença antes mesmo de qualquer sinal visível.
O tumor endocervical é o terceiro mais frequente nas mulheres do Brasil, atrás apenas do câncer de mama e câncer colorretal. E apesar de geralmente não apresentar sintomas, algumas mulheres podem perceber corrimento vaginal incomum, dor durante o sexo, sangramento vaginal após as relações sexuais, sangramento entre as menstruações ou após a menopausa.
Tratamento
Se uma mulher faz o exame preventivo periodicamente, as chances de cura para o câncer de colo de útero são bem altas, pois garante um atendimento rápico e precoce. O tratamento pode ser cirúrgico e também contar com o auxílio da quimioterapia e radiação.
Prevenção
Como esse tipo de tumor ocorre em mulheres infectadas pelo HPV, uma das melhores formas de prevenção é o uso de preservativo durante as relações sexuais, reduzindo as chances de contaminação pelo vírus.
Hoje em dia, meninas de 9 a 14 anos e meninos de 11 a 14 anos podem se vacinar gratuitamente nas unidades de saúde contra o HPV. A vacinação é outra forma de reduzir o número de casos para esse tipo de câncer, que ainda é tão comum entre as mulheres.
